MONTGOMERY ZOO (Montgomery, AL): The most recent Dino Dig educational program at the Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum was a groundbreaking success. Hosted on April 5, 2025, the event took place at the zoo’s brand-new dig site, located at the newly constructed Jaguar Stage near the jaguar habitat.

The new site was created specifically to enhance the zoo’s educational programming, and its debut was met with enthusiastic response. All child participant spots were sold out the week of the event, and many guests walking by inquired about joining future sessions. The Jaguar Stage transforms into a realistic dig site for Dino Dig, then reverts to a performance space used for live entertainment during Zoo Weekend and other events.

Dino Dig remains one of the zoo’s most popular offerings for children ages 4–10, allowing young explorers to experience a simulated archaeological dig, uncover fossils, and learn about prehistoric creatures through classroom lessons, live animal presentations, and hands-on fun.

“We’re thrilled to provide this new space for our beloved program,” said Danielle Crowe, the Education Curator at the Montgomery Zoo. “This dig site is just one of several exciting new projects we’re working on, and it’s already proving to be a valuable addition to our educational mission.”

The next Dino Dig event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025. Advanced reservations will be available as we get closer to the event.

Up next in the zoo’s educational lineup is Magical Creatures, a fantasy-themed program designed to teach kids about the real-life animals that inspire myths and legends. More details on this program will be released soon.
